Chapter News: February 2017
The following are the submissions received for February 2017.

Akron (Gamma-Alpha)
In February, the chapter held an Associate Member Ceremony for five new members, increasing their chapter size to 28 members. Chapter members volunteered at the annual Chili Open organized by the Akron Rotary Camp.
Baldwin Wallace (Kappa-Phi)
The chapter hosted a bake sale that raised nearly $200 in two days for Feeding America.
Ball State University (Iota-Alpha)
The chapter hosted its annual alumni event in Downtown Indianapolis. Paired with Kappa Delta sorority, chapter members danced for 13.1 hours at Ball State University Dance Marathon that raised nearly $677,000 for Riley Hospital for Children. The chapter added nine associate members. Three members were selected to serve as Camp Kesem counselors.
Bloomsburg (Beta-Xi Colony)
The colony’s chartering packet was approved by the Grand High Zeta. The colony would like to thank former chapter President Chris Ramsdale for his tireless work completing the chartering documents. Chapter Advisor Jay Heddings was named Advisor of the Year by Bloomsburg University.
California State – Chico (Phi-Chi)
Chapter brothers volunteered with the Red Cross to help the evacuees that were displaced by flooding around the Oroville Dam. Chapter members also delivered waters, snacks, hand sanitizer, and paper goods to the Neighborhood Church to aid residents who were staying there.
California State – Northridge (Beta-Rho)
The chapter is volunteering with LA Regional Food Bank, the CSUN Food Pantry and the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission to help families, students, and individuals obtain life’s basic necessities. The volunteer work includes preparing and serving dinners for families at the shelter who are seeking to develop a personal plan for growth, employment, and eventual housing. In January, chapter members helped clean Dockweiler Beach as part of the Heal The Bay Foundation.
Coastal Carolina (Coastal Carolina Colony)
The colony added five associate members during spring recruitment.
Central Missouri (Lambda-Pi)
The chapter won the fall intramurals by more than 500 points. Chapter members are partnering with Warrensburg Public Works to find community service events around Warrensburg.
Cincinnati (Gamma-Gamma)
The chapter added two associate members: Devin Rindler and Jake Bomkamp. The chapter held a brotherhood event at Perfect North Ski Resort and enjoyed skiing and snow tubing.
Culver-Stockton (Kappa-Mu)
Chapter members hosted their annual telefund, reaching out alumni to update them on chapter activities and upcoming important dates. Led by Alumni Chairman Tyler Renaud, the telefund raised enough money to recarpet the house. With the help of the American Red Cross, chapter Vice President Brayden Hausdorf hosted a blood drive. The chapter hosted a Valentine’s Day themed mixer with the Chi Omega chapter on our campus.
Drexel (Epsilon-Kappa)
Declan Patterson competed in Delta Phi Epsilon’s Deepher Dude competition, raising nearly $1,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The 2017 Annual Alumni Meeting and Awards Banquet will be held from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. on May 6 at the Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel.
Embry-Riddle (Sigma-Phi)
Three chapter members attended an IMPACT instruction course where the values of leadership were taught to all Greek organizations on campus. Chapter members worked at the Daytona 500 race to raise funds for the chapter and to give back to the community through the food distributed to the public. Associate Member Pierce Hitchcock passed his written test for his private pilot license and he will be taking his check ride in March.
Ferris State (Iota-Psi)
The chapter added five associate members during spring recruitment. Chapter members participating in Zeta Tau Alpha’s Best Man on Campus Competition. On Valentine’s Day, the local Alpha Xi Delta sorority brought cookies to the brothers.
Florida (Epsilon-Mu)
The chapter added nine associate members during spring recruitment. Additional news about the chapter may be found here.
Georgia Tech (Beta-Kappa)
Cam Cianciolo raised $790 for the Alpha Phi Foundation as a contestant in their King of Hearts competition. Currently at $2,000 and hoping to reach $12,000, the chapter is helping to fund childhood cancer research through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The university’s Director of Player Personnel Mario West spoke to the chapter about leadership and accountability.
Illinois (Chi)
The chapter added 18 associate members during spring recruitment.
Iowa (Iota-Chi)
Caleb Rainey earned second place in a campus-wide sponsored Poetry Slam competition. On Feb. 11, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for their fall associate member class. As a result of that Initiation, the chapter surpassed its 900th member. During spring recruitment, the chapter added six associate members.
John Carroll (Pi-Eta)
Partnering with Campus Ministry, chapter brothers helped cut and fold 30 blankets that will be donated to the poor of Cleveland. Chapter members teamed up with Books for Soldiers and hope to send 200-300 books to active duty soldiers. Ryan Meisenzahl and Zach Musacchio are new associate members.
Kent State (Pi-Gamma)
Chapter members participated in three philanthropies: Tri-Sigma Night Live, Alpha Xi Delta’s Lipsync, and Alpha Phi’s King of Hearts. During formal spring recruitment, the chapter added one associate member: Kyle Duale. The chapter appointed Kyle Paden as the new Ritual chairman. Griffin Ewers was appointed historian and IFC representative.
Louisiana – Lafayette (Iota-Omega)
On Feb. 25, chapter and alumni members attended a Habitat for Humanity Home Build framing a house.
Loyola Marymount (Delta-Psi)
The chapter held its inaugural Veterans Clothing Drive, collecting more than 15 trash bags full of various clothing items to be donated in partnership with the Student Veterans Organization on campus.
Maryland – Baltimore County (Phi-Delta)
The chapter added 10 associate members during spring recruitment. On Feb. 25, chapter members collected 1145 pounds for food for Feeding America.
McDaniel College (McDaniel Colony)
The chapter added five associate members, doubling their size.
Missouri State University (Beta-Psi)
The chapter held a social with Alpha Chi Omega and were hosted by the women of Alpha Delta Pi on Feb. 22 for a pizza night. The chapter now has an active Alumni Advisory Board. On Feb. 16, the chapter hosted Grand High Pi Jeff Stuerman for a leadership session.
New York (Theta-Upsilon)
During spring recruitment, the chapter added 10 associate members.
Ohio (Alpha-Omega)
The chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 19 associate members.
Oregon State (Alpha-Lambda)
The chapter held its inaugural Can You Dash? philanthropy, partnering with several sororities and benefitting the Community Outreach, Inc. More than 100 participants spent three hours running around town knocking on doors and asking for donations. The event raised $2,500 and hundreds of jackets and non-perishable food items were donated.
Pennsylvania (Epsilon)
The chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for eight associate members. On Jan. 30, chapter Vice President and IFC Vice President Ben Riedel led a campus-wide blood drive.
Pennsylvania State (Zeta)
Chapter members participated in Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) that raised $10,045,478, with $222,557 raised by Lambda Chi and Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. Led by brother Patrick Barder (2018), the team worked tirelessly canning, canvassing, hosting food sales, and finding corporate donors to contribute to the grand total. In addition, the chapter raised $4,830 and 48,460 pounds for Feeding America.
Pittsburg State (Lambda-Chi)
On Feb. 26, the chapter held an Associate Member Ceremony for six new members. Several chapter brothers completed the construction and building of a new deck on the back porch. Alumni brother Keith Ritchey is donating $300 to help offset costs to send three of our brothers to the Stead Leadership Seminar in July. Our annual Founder’s Day celebration will be held on Saturday, April 22 at the Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburg. Alumni brother Josh McElhaney was elected the mayor of Grove, Oklahoma, located on the Grand Lake Of The Cherokees.
Richmond (Alpha-Chi)
For the fall 2016 semester, the chapter earned the highest GPA of all the fraternities. On Feb. 24, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplificatino for 19 associate members.
Shepherd (Phi-Iota)
The chapter hosted a canned food drive between Feb. 6-10, raising 8,500 pounds of food donated to the local Feeding America food bank. The chapter added seven associate members during spring recruitment: Jacoby Steele, Conner Disotelle, Michael Icenhower, Matthew Livengood, Jack Martin, Michael Parsons, and Adam Workman.
South Dakota Mines (Pi-Mu)
The chapter held its Big Brother Ceremony. In addition, chapter members participated in the Spring Career Fair and volunteered for the sixth annual Black Hills Energy’s Walk for Warmth. This walk is designed to help pay the energy cost for lower income families during the winter months. Twenty-four members helped by being crossing guards at intersections.
Southern Indiana (Phi-Xi)
Chapter members competed in Gamma Phi Beta’s Lip Sync, a philanthropy event that raised more than $4,000. The chapter added three associate members during spring recruitment.
Spring Hill (Delta-Delta)
Chapter brothers volunteered at a local food bank in Mobile, AL. They sorted 3,710 pounds of non-perishable foods, which will help provide nearly 3,090 meals to those in need along the Central Gulf Coast. Chapter bothers Kyle Mistretta and Dylan Mire, Grayson Hetherington and Forest Fontenot are spending their Spring Break on a mission trip to Beliz, a part of Spring Hill College’s campus ministry program.
Tarleton State (Phi-Rho)
The chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 12 associate members (from left to right): Dusy Aaron, Clayton Hawkins, Riley Roden, Rhett Rhamos, Darius Sanders, Diego Bogenegra, Cole Howeth, Jared Conley, Sean Horan, Benjamin Seifert, and Cody Worth.
Texas – El Paso (Zeta-Epsilon)
The chapter added nine associate members during spring recruitment.
Texas – San Antonio (Phi-Upsilon)
The chapter added 12 associate members during spring recruitment.
Tulsa (Epsilon-Upsilon)
Chapter members participated in a campus-wide Service Day and served at the Global Gardens. This garden provides the opportunity for elementary school students, their families, and the community to engage in gardening and learning about global cultures. Chapter brothers spent five hours cleaning, digging, and preparing the garden for the season. Chapter members are also volunteering bi-weekly at the local food bank.
Virginia Commonwealth (Pi-Tau)
The chapter added seven associate members.
Wabash (Alpha-Kappa)
Chapter members volunteered at the local dog shelter and Boys and Girls Club. Chapter members also participated in the Wabash College Dance Marathon, raising money for Riley Children’s Hospital. Chapter brother Michal Herman is a starting pitcher for the varsity baseball team and won a game against Transylvania College.
William Jewell (Epsilon-Nu)
Nate Conway was accepted into the doctorate program at the Washington University of St. Louis to pursue an advanced degree in experimental physics. Associate Member Parker Jenkins, the founder of the William Jewell College Young Americans for Liberty, attended the International Students for Liberty Conference in Washington DC. Jenkins and Ian Langford, YAL Secretary chapter president, attended the event, having the opportunity to hear from noted speakers such as Congressmen Rand Paul and Thomas Massie, Steve Forbes, world renowned psychologist Jonathan Haidt, Ed Crane of the CATO Institute, Grover Norquist of the Tax Foundation, and Nick Gillespie of Reason Magazine.
Wisconsin – Lacrosse (Wisconsin – Lacrosse Colony)
Recruitment Chairman Nick Swoger is a member of the varsity track team throwing the discus, shot put, and hammer. Scholarship Chairman Addison Skeels is a member of the club Ultimate Frisbee team.
