Chapter News: April 2017
The following are the submissions received for April 2017.

If you cannot find news from your chapter, then no information has been submitted for this month.
Arkansas State (Iota-Theta)
On April 29, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 34 associate members. On April 24, the chapter held a volleyball brotherhood event at the house. On April 22, the chapter hosted its annual Founders’ Day Banquet and conducted an Officer Installation Ceremony. On April 14, the chapter earned first place in Alpha Kappa Alpha’s philanthropy event called Stroll Like an AKA. On April 12, chapter members participated in A-State Leadership Center’s event to raise awareness to end sexual assault.
Auburn (Omega)
Luke Anderson was accepted into Squires, a sophomore honor society. Briar Cranston was accepted into Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society. Ryan Yates- was accepted into Phi Beta Kappa, a national leadership honor society. Noah Blackwood, Noah Smith, Davis Voecks, Ian Crane, and Connor Wimberley were selected for SGA cabinet members. The chapter hosted a very successful blood drive with the American Red Cross. Chapter members hosted an Easter egg hunt for about 100 children in the Auburn Community. They played games, had music and food and the egg hunt with about 1,000 eggs. this event. Chapter members won the intramural softball championship.
Coastal Carolina (Costal Carolina Colony)
The colony raised more than 600 pounds of food during philanthropy week. The chapter hosted its first inaugural watermelon bust and crowned a new crescent girl.
Drexel (Epsilon-Kappa)
On May 6, the chapter will host the 2017 Annual Alumni Meeting and Awards Banquet at the Fraternity House. The event will include a Graduating Seniors Ceremony, business meeting, and award distribution.
Eastern Illinois (Phi-Alpha)
On April 22, the more than 100 alumni and undergraduate brothers and guests celebrated the chapter’s 40th-anniversary. The festivities began with an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for three associate members followed by a meal and program of celebration in the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Union. Alumni traveled from Hawaii, California, Arizona, Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Illinois to be part of the celebration. Former Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Board Chairman Marty Smith served as the keynote speaker. Other dignitaries present included EIU President David Glassman, EIU Assistant Vice President of Advancement Brother Steve Rich, EIU Assistant Vice President of Advancement Brother Steve Rich, EIU Greek Life Director Brother Nathan Wehr and EIU Board of Trustee Brother Kristopher Goetz. Alumni Brothers Craig Parmele, Jake Juracka, Dennis Grannan and John Schmitt provided recollections from different eras. A ceremony was also held to honor deceased Brothers. Chapter President Alec Murphy provided an update on the current status of the chapter and awarded several scholarships endowed at Eastern Illinois by the alumni. Alumni have gifted over $100,000 in endowed funds benefiting the chapter. Chapter Advisor Dirk Bennett served as master of ceremonies and also addressed brothers and guests in attendance.
Illinois (Chi)
On April 8, chapter brothers and their mothers traveled to the new chapter house to take a tour and see the progress that has been made with the construction. Following the tour, the chapter hosted the annual Mom’s Weekend auction that raised more than $5,000 for the chapter house.
Kent State (Pi-Gamma)
Chapter members participated in Alpha Xi Delta’s philanthropy Light it up Blue Week. The High Pi also set up a GoFundMe page. It was named the Purple, Green, and Gold Campaign and it is for Alumni to have easier access to help support the chapter. The chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplfication for nine associate members. Lambda Chi’s Gamma-Alpha chapter at the University of Akron hosted the Initiation. The chapter won the 2017 Greek Week competition. Chapter members participated in a Relay for Life event to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Methodist (Sigma-Theta)
Hunter Owens was elected at Greek Council vice president. He also will be restarting the Interfraternity Council serving as vice president of finance.
Michigan (Sigma)
The chapter was named 2017 Greek Week champions for 2017 with sorority partner Alpha Delta Pi. The chapter came in second place for the variety dance competition and won first place in the Greek Flag Football tournament, among having the most participation for any chapter involved in Greek Week. Secondly chapter President Daniel Greene was voted by the Michigan IFC as president of the year for his outstanding leadership and involvement in Literature, Science and Arts Student Government(LSASG) and Central Student Government (CSG). Finally, the chapter had one of the most involved Watermelon Bust philanthropy events since the chapter’s recolonization. The event involved 16 sorority and club teams and raised $2,140 for Feeding America.
Missouri State (Beta-Psi)
On March 21, the chapter hosted a Grant’s Warriors charity event, benefitting their chapter advisor’s nephew, Grant Crisp, who has a rare form of liver cancer,
Penn State (Zeta)
The chapter partnered with the Grace Lutheran Church to conduct an Easter egg hunt in the chapter’s backyard. The event included an Easter bunny playing with the kids and taking pictures with the families.
Pittsburg State (Lambda-Chi)
Howard W. Smith appointed vice president for enrollment management and student success at Pittsburg State Univeristy. Chapter members cleaned the chapter house and raised money to seal the new wood deck and fence built around the side and rear of property. The outdoor metal lighted house badge built by was refurbished and placed back on the front of the chapter house.
South Dakota Mines (Pi-Mu)
The chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for its associate members. On April 6, the chapter hosted a game night recruitment event that included playing Mario Kart, ping pong and other video and board games. On April 29, the chapter went on a hike as another recruitment event. April included three socials: a picnic with Alpha Omega Epsilon sorority, a coffee and doughnuts with campus administration, and a study room with Alpha Chi Epsilon sorority. Chapter members volunteered at a horse sanctuary and Feeding South Dakota.
Stetson (Zeta-Tau)
The chapter held a camping trip as a brotherhood event. As a thank you to the Florida state park who hosted them, chapter members cleared the main nature trail of the facility.
Tampa (Tampa Colony)
Colony members held a volunteer event with the Sigma Delta Tau sorority at Feeding Tampa Bay, sorting nearly 7,000 pounds of food that equates to more than 5,600 meals in the Tampa Bay area.
Tulsa (Epsilon Upsilon)
On April 9, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for six associate members. The chapter now has a total of 62 undergraduate members. During the chapter’s philanthropy week, the chapter raised money for the Special Olympics of Oklahoma. Events included a barbecue dinner for students on campus and a volleyball tournament.
Virginia (Pi-Tau)
The chapter hosted its inaugural fish fry event.
Western (Delta-Eta)
During final exams, the chapter held brotherhood study breaks that included bowling and sushi as study breaks.
