Arizona State (Zeta-Psi)
Zachary K. Jarratt died Dec. 25, 2017.
Ball State (Iota-Alpha)
Phillip W. Schleeter died Oct. 31, 2009. He retired from Delphi as a supervisor in 2007 after 29 years of employment.
Bradley (Kappa-Upsilon)
Donald A. Macholl died Aug. 4, 2016. He worked for CF Industries as an accountant and was involved with the Masonic Order for more than 40 years and the Elks.
Bucknell (Delta)
Robert E. Tweed died June 13, 2017. After graduation, he went on to pursue a career with General Electric and Abbott Laboratories, eventually becoming a vice president of the Hospital Products Division at Abbott Labs. After retirement, he moved to Pinehurst in 1996 with his wife, Lorraine, and went on to serve as a member of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital’s board of Trustees.
California-Berkeley (Mu)
Stanley McPherson died.
Coastal Carolina (Colony)
Approved to charter, the colony is planning a chartering banquet for March. They will be chartered as the Pi-Kappa chapter.
Delaware (Lambda-Beta)
Brian E. Mitchell died Nov. 25, 2017.
Eastern Illinois (Phi-Alpha)
Gary J. Kerr died May 19, 2017. Gary graduated from Eastern Illinois University and worked his entire career within the Information Systems department of the federal government. Gary retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2011.
Florida (Epsilon-Mu)
Elmer W. Cates died.
Georgetown (Kappa-Omega)
Jeffrey T. Brach (2015) died Dec. 26, 2017. After graduating cum laude in 2015, Jeffrey remained in Kentucky and worked as a Production Manager at LM Communications Broadcast Media Group – ESPN radio in Lexington. He also enjoyed being an on-air assistant to the Lexington Legends Baseball games. While in Kentucky, Jeffrey also worked for Amazon. He came back to California in order to spend more time with his grandparents and family in 2016. He worked at The Honest Company in Playa Vista and enjoyed the high energy of a young company. His passion was working with children and coaching baseball. He spent summers working at Tom Hicks Baseball Camps and most recently at The Refinery in Torrance. Recently he joined the marketing team at Sports Clips and represented the company at events around Southern California.
Hanover (Theta-Zeta)
James E. Taflinger died Sept. 22, 2017. He was a World War II veteran and longtime Indianapolis Public School teacher.
Illinois (Chi)
Eric Holland (1991) chaired a conference in St. Louis preceding the Judicial Panel on Multi-District Litigation hearing session. Conference speakers addressed cutting edge topics in complex litigation including lawsuits arising out of the opioid crisis, the Equifax data breach, and a variety of pharmaceutical and medical device cases. Holland, who has been appointed by a growing number of governmental entities to serve as a special prosecutor in lawsuits against opioid manufacturers and distributors, moderated panel discussions regarding the opioid crisis as well as the evolving asbestos evidence in talcum powder litigation.
Indiana State (Iota-Epsilon)
Ronnie M. Clayton (1960) died Jan. 22, 2017. He began his career in the Evansville – Vanderburgh County School System as an industrial arts teacher at Cedar Hall School immediately after graduating college. He became a guidance counselor after earning his master’s of science and certification. He then served as an assistant principal, retiring after eight years as Harwood Middle School principal.
Johnson & Wales – Providence (Colony)
Colony members volunteered at the Rhode Island Food Bank and are focused on achieving the necessary operating standards for chartering.
Kent State (Pi-Gamma)
As a part of its Pumpkin Bash fundraising event, the chapter collected 55,000 pounds of food for the Akron-Canton Foodbank. The chapter created a LinkedIn page for career networking. Newly elected officers for 2018 are: Ethan Wiblin, presdient; Matt Bandersky, vice president; Ethan Molitor, vice president; Dylan Downing, secretary; John Malinowski, treasurer; Josh Deyarmin, harm reduction officer; Cody Knox, alumni relations chairman; Tyler Blazek, fraternity educator; Griffin Ewers, recruitment chairman; Brennan Macaluso, ritualist; Kyle Duale, scholarship chairman; Dan Volpe, social chairman; Brennan Macaluso and Ethan Molitor, executive members-at-large; and, Tyler Andrews, executive alternate.
Kutztown (Sigma-Gamma)
Chapter members participated in the Jared Box project and accepted donations throughout campus that included school supplies and toys for children. A Jared Box is a a box filled with school supplies and toys that is delivered to a child with a serious illness. We donated more than 40 boxes and a large container of donations to Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Lycoming (Iota-Beta)
Thomas V. Krug Jr. died Sept. 29, 2016. He spent a career in textile sales for Sullivan-Carson, Inc. Additionally, he was a longtime member of Tavistock Country Club and an avid swimmer.
Michigan State (Gamma-Omicron)
Hon. Fred L. Fox II died Nov. 27, 2017. Fox served three months on the state supreme court in 1995, filling in for then-Justice William T. Brotherton, who was recuperating from surgery. After college, he served in the Marine Corps from 1960 to 1963. He then attended West Virginia University College of Law, opened a law practice in Fairmont and joined the Marine Reserve. He was recalled to active duty and served 11 months in Vietnam, where he was injured by a mortar and shot in the foot on January 31, 1969. His left leg was badly injured. He received two Bronze Stars, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and a Purple Heart. Fox first was elected as a judge in 1970, and he was re-elected every eight years until he retired in 2010. After retirement, Fox frequently sat in as a replacement when justices recused themselves from cases, according to the Supreme Court release.
Millersville (Delta-Tau)
Brandon Mitchell left school to begin his service in the military.
New Hampshire (Alpha-Xi)
On Dec. 1, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 13 associate members. During the Pumpkin Bash fundraiser, the chapter collected about $700 for Feeding America.
North Carolina-Chapel Hill (Gamma-Nu)
James R. Dickens Sr. died Aug. 18, 2017. He was the first in his family to attend college, and he did so at his beloved UNC Chapel Hill, where he received a BS in Business. He served in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1950s. It was while he was stationed at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina, that he met the love of his life and mother of his children, Alice. After marrying Alice in 1953, he began a career with National Cash Register Company which took him first to Raleigh and then to Rocky Mount in 1958. In 1968 he co-founded Printed Paper Products, and then in 1978 founded Jim Dickens Business Forms which later became Jim Dickens Printing and Promotional Products, Inc. He continued to go in to the office daily well into his eighties and stayed involved in the business right up to the very end. Retirement was not in his vocabulary.
Northeastern State (Delta-Beta)
The chapter held its annual canned food drive, collecting nearly 500 pounds of food and $100 in donations. The brothers also held a holiday brotherhood event with a basketball game and gift exchange.
Northern Colorado (Sigma-Omega)
The chapter currently has 41 members, including 11 who recently participated in an Initiation Ritual Exemplification.
Oklahoma City (Theta-Delta)
The chapter conducted an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 16 associate members.
Pennsylvania (Epsilon)
The chapter held a homecoming weekend event for alumni in November and Initiation Ritual Exemplification the following weekend. Both events were well attended by alumni brothers.
Pittsburg State (Lambda-Chi)
Alfred L. Burgert died June 18, 2017. He worked in banking in Pittsburg, Wichita, and York, Nebraska. He was also a longtime real-estate agent in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Rutgers (Phi)
Norman C. Crawford Jr. died May 12, 2017. He was president of Salisbury University — then known as Salisbury State College — from 1970 to 1980. He earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary science education in 1951 and a master’s degree in guidance and personnel in 1957, both from Rutgers University. In 1966, he earned his doctorate in higher-education administration from Northwestern University.
Sewanee (Iota-Nu)
The chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for seven associate members as well as three associate members from the colony at Middle Tennessee State University.
Shepherd (Phi-Iota)
On Dec. 2, 2017, 220 alumni and undergraduate members attended the chapter’s 40th anniversary celebration held at the Clarion Hotel in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
George A. Pavlidies (1989) died Dec. 2, 2017. Early in his professional career, Mr. Pavlidies held high level positions in sales with three different telecommunication companies. He later owned and operated Academy Linens, LLC, an Annapolis based commercial laundry enterprise, which served hotels and restaurants throughout the Baltimore-Washington metroplex.
South Dakota School of Mines & Technology (Pi-Mu)
Chapter members served as ushers at a local school choir concert, an annual tradition. Chapter members also helped decorate for Christmas at Story Book Island, a local amusement. Chapter members also helped cleaning and repairs at Happy Trails, a horse ranch, where they cleaned barns, stalls, animal pens, repaired fences and painted. Open in the summer, Happy Tails lets children kids ride horses, pet dogs, and gain ranch experience. The chapter more than doubled last year’s service hours, logging approximately 1,027 hours of community service.
South Dakota State (Lambda-Theta)
During the week of Nov. 13, 2017, chapter brothers held the South Dakota Showdown, an annual football run competition for Feeding America with the chapter brothers from Alpha-Gamma at the University of South Dakota. This is an annual tradition that dates back to the late 1960s, where a football is run from one campus to the other. The football is then presented to the athletic director of the home team prior to kick off. This year the ball was run from Brookings to Vermillion, South Dakota. During the event, donations were collected for Feeding South Dakota with the help of South Dakota Corn. On Dec. 9, 2017, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for five associate members.
Southern Methodist (Gamma-Sigma)
David A. DuPriest died Jan. 9, 2018. For many years, he owned Elite Car Wash and Lube center in Arlington, Texas. He considered the car wash to be his ministry; he loved to mentor young men and to teach them the importance of a strong work ethic. He sought to treat everyone he encountered with kindness and integrity. In 2010, he sold the car wash to move to the corporate world.
Donald D. Presley (1954) died Aug. 25, 2017. After teaching at an elementary school and a couple of middle schools, he transferred to Skyline High School, where he served as a guidance counselor from 1975 until his retirement in 1988. After retiring from Skyline, he worked for the DISD testing center and then as a gallery attendant at the Dallas Museum of Art.
Stetson (Zeta-Tau)
William Liles Sr. died March 2, 2017. After graduation, he moved to Orlando to start his own real estate brokerage, appraisal, and development firm.
Tulsa (Epsilon-Upsilon)
The chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 23 associates members. The chapter has now initiated more than 1,600 members.
Wabash (Alpha-Kappa)
The chapter earned the third best fraternity GPA. Tyler Downing traveled to Vietnam as part of a two-week immersion program.
Alexander B. Arzumanian died Oct. 24, 2015.. He was a real estate broker and appraiser for over 40 years, owner of Alexander Realty in Hammond and Arzumanian Nursery in Highland. He is a member of the East Chicago Washington Football Hall of Fame and a lifetime member of the Elks. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
William Jewell (Epsilon-Nu)
The chapter achieved its goal of 500+ service hours with 562 at the end of the December.
Wisconsin – Lacrosse (Colony)
The University of Minnesota-Mankato chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for two associate members from the colony. The colony participated in an all-Greek social on campus for a holiday going-away party. The entire Greek community also watched the movie “GOAT” as an anti-hazing event. The colony currently has 12 initiated brothers.
