Alabama (Alpha-Phi)
Thomas M. Maddux (1992) died March 21, 2018.
Arkansas (Gamma-Chi)
Steve Noland (1972) died March 28, 2018. After graduation, he worked in the animal feed service industry in Central and Northeast Arkansas eventually working for TENCO in Pocahontas, Arkansas overseeing their swine operation. He returned to Fayetteville in 1984 and was employed by Farm Bureau Insurance as an insurance agent. An Eagle Scout, he later served as a scout master for two separate troops in Fayetteville and Pocahontas, served on both the United Way Local Board and their Foundation Board, Holiday Hoops Basketball Tournament in Fayetteville, member of the Kiwanis Club in Lincoln, Trees for Township in Fayetteville where he coordinated efforts to plant the trees, Friends of the Buffalo, Ozark Society, and a member of the Arkansas Pork Producers.
Baldwin Wallace (Kappa-Phi)
Chapter brothers participated in the university’s annual April Reign, earning first place in pyramid and the Sportsmanship Award for kind works and support of all organizations. Chapter brothers also returned to The Greater Cleveland Food Bank to help process almost 30,000 pounds of food. During the last week of classes, the brothers went to cheer on the Cleveland Indians. Several brothers present their research at Baldwin Wallace’s annual Ovation, including Yon Reuven, Nick Hammond, Clay Kelley, Dan Jesensky, Robert Loechler and Justin Malave.
Boston (Alpha)
Joseph Curley (1989) died Oct. 1, 2017. A Navy ROTC cadet, a Scarlet Key recipient, and most importantly, a dedicated brother of the Alpha Zeta chapter, he demonstrated leadership and strove for excellence during his college years. Upon graduation, Curley built a successful career in commercial insurance. He was survived with his wife Lauren and two daughters, Madeline and Margret. On April 14, the brothers and alumni gathered in Nickerson field to cheer for Maddie Curley for one of her last games as a Terrier.
Wade Hubbard (1955) died March 21, 2018. he served in the Korean conflict after enlisting in the Naval Air Corps Reserve. Following an honorable discharge, he took employment with Niagara Mohawk Corp. He accepted a scholarship award to attend Boston University and after graduation joined Groveton Paper Co. in Groveton, New Hampshire. After 17 years with Groveton, he accepted a position with James River Corp. in Berlin, New Hampshire as a technical analyst before retiring in 1991.

Derek V. Allan (1959) died.
Bucknell (Delta-Zeta)
On April 28, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification 18 associate members. The chapter placed third in the Greek Week competition.
California-Los Angeles (Epsilon-Sigma)
Michael J. “MJ” Harness (1978) died March 19, 2018. Post college, he began a 40 year career in construction management, primarily in major commercial building structures & complexes. For many years, he was instrumental in creating and sending chapter email updates, referred to as the Old Bro Network, with chapter alumni.
Cal State-Chico (Phi-Chi)
The chapter raised more than $1,000 and collected over 3,000 cans of food at its Watermelon Bust philanthrop
Kyle LaForce (2021) died March 27, 2018. As an adolescent, he was diagnosed with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy and had a seizure in his sleep that morning. A sophomore at Chico State, he studied mechanical engineering.

The chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 17 associate members. On April 22, the chapter hosted an alumni golf outing.

Herbert E. Marohn died Nov. 21, 2017.
Drexel (Epsilon-Kappa)
Brian M. Doyle (1989) died April 13, 2018. After graduating from college, he joined what is now Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LLC in Northern Virginia. In 1990, he joined a cousin, Tim Doyle, who had a consulting firm under contract to Resolution Trust Corp., which liquidated assets such as mortgage loans that had been held by several savings and loan associations and banks in New Jersey and New York that were later closed. From 1990 to 1995, he was a commercial property sales associate with MacKenzie & Co., before going to work for Miller Corporate Real Estate. That was where he met his future business partner. While both men continued working for the firm, they established MDRE Equities LLC in 1995. In 2004, they left Miller and opened an office in Hunt Valley to oversee properties they managed in East Coast and Midwestern states. Since 2007, the firm has been located on West Padonia Road in Timonium.

Drury (Theta-Sigma)
James W. Scott (1950) died Jan. 16, 2018. A World War II veteran, he dedicated his life to public education where he started as a social studies and journalism teacher in Springfield, MO before spending ten years in Kansas City, MO as a teacher then principal at Northgate Junior High. Bill spent the remainder of his career as Director of Certificated Personnel in North Kansas City School District before retiring in 1991 after 41 years of work in education.

Thomas L. Bass died Nov. 3, 2016.
East Tennessee State (Iota-Omicron)
Jerry R. Harmon (1968) died Jan. 13, 2018. He was a 1998 recipient of Lambda Chi Alpha’s Order of Merit for his volunteer service to the Fraternity.

Eastern Illinois (Phi-Alpha)
At the 2018 Greek awards ceremony, chapter President Jamie Carley was named IFC Fraternity Man of the Year, chapter advisor Dirk Bennett received the Elise Ramsey Chapter Advisor of the Year Award, and Austin Baker won the Thomas Anthony Grud Memorial Award.
Florida (Epsilon-Mu)
At the university’s Dance Marathon, the chapter had 12 captains, two associate directors, and one general fundraising director. Six brothers remained on their feet for 26.2 hours in order to show their support for the children of Shands Hospital, including one brother who has now danced four years in a row. The chapter has raised nearly $1,000 from alumni for house and landscaping improvements.

New chapter officers have been elected and transitioned. Chapter members are competing in Greek Week and Pool Games.
L. Charles Ison (1966) died April 5, 2018. A former chapter president, he taught chemistry and physics at West Jessamine High School for 32 years.

Georgia (Nu)
H. Edsel “Ed” Benson (1942) died March 31, 2018. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps and proudly served during World War II in England, North Africa, and Italy. When he left active duty in 1945 as a captain, he spent six months in Chicago studying at the National Institute of Baking. He returned to Athens to work full-time at Benson’s Bakery and attend graduate school. While still a very young man he was president of the Rotary Club of Athens and then served as district governor, at that time the youngest person ever to serve in that capacity. For the next 60 years, he supported countless civic and youth organizations and was fundraising chairman for several building projects — Athens First United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army Chapel, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Athens, and the YMCA. At age 70 he was a founder of the Athens/Clarke County Mentor Program. And, at age 80, he began delivering “Meals on Wheels,” a service he continued well into his 90s. Because of his devotion to his alma mater he contributed over the years serving as vice chair and treasurer of the UGA Foundation, chairman of the President’s Club, member of the Athletic Board and chair of UGA’s 28th Annual Fund. In 2015, he was the recipient of the Lambda Chi Alpha’s Order of Achievement for outstanding success in his profession. His latest contribution to UGA was recognized last summer with the naming of Benson Hall, a major part of the new Terry College of Business Learning Center. Benson and his son, Larry, are the 2018 recipients of the UGA Alumni Association Family of the Year Award. He is also the recipient of the 2018 Distinguished American Award presented by the Georgia Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
Georgia Tech (Beta-Kappa)
David H. Hughes Jr. (1956) died Nov. 9, 2013.
James C. Matheson (1949) died Dec. 21, 2007.
Joseph F. Mole Jr. (1953) died April 10, 2017.
Indiana State (Iota-Epsilon)
Paired with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Chi Omega Sorority, the chapter competed in Spring Week and finished in third place. The chapter raised and donated more than $300 to Feeding America. The chapter hosted a White Rose Formal.
Kansas (Zeta-Iota)
The chapter hosted a mom’s weekend that included brunch at Wake the Dead and painting pottery at Sunfire Ceramics. We highly recommend going to wake the dead for doughnuts, they by far have the best doughnuts in Lawrence. Alumni Advisor Bob Walrafen hosted an Initiation Ritual Exemplification and Akshay Pandey became the newest initiated member of the chapter.

Harry W. Grell Jr. (1949) died Dec. 24, 2014.
Lockhaven (Lambda-Gamma)
William F. Snyder (1976) died April 5, 2018. A proud veteran, he served with the United States Army National Guard. Before his retirement, he was a Waterways Conservation Officer with the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission for 25 years. After retiring, he was employed as a part-time security officer for the Pocono Mountain School District.

The chapter conducted an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for five associate members. The chapter voted on a new set of officers and they have taken their oaths and are now in office.

Minnesota State – Mankato (Lambda-Delta)
On April 6, the chapter conducted an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for two associate members. On April 28, the chapter held a spring philanthropy, Lambda Chi Cookout, on April 28, 2018 with proceeds benefitting the ECHO Food Shelf in Mankato, Minnesota.
Missouri-Columbia (Gamma-Kappa)
Carl Hohnbaum (1958) died March 22, 2018. He was a first lieutenant, US Army artillery on active duty for two years and in the reserve for six years when he was honorably discharged. He had a distinguished career in the securities industry for over 40 years. He held senior management positions at securities firms in Kansas City, Houston and Pittsburgh.
Missouri S&T (Alpha-Delta)
Bob Berry (1972) has published two books: “Crossings: War Memories of Major Jerome T. Berry and the 19th Engineer Regiment (Combat) in North Africa, Sicily and Italy, 1940 – 1945” – about his father in World War II and “Mud, Blood and Strawberries: The Illustrated Diary of Corporal Walter L. Strawhun, 1st Division, American Expeditionary” about his grandfather in World War I.
Missouri State (Beta-Psi)
In April, the chapter received an award for top IFC GPA for the 2017 year. They also received a STAR (Student Talent and Recognition) Award for Outstanding Philanthropic Program for their work for Grant’s Warriors, which raised more than $5000 each of the last two years. Tim Wilkinson received a STAR award for Outstanding Junior.
New Mexico (Zeta-Mu)
Adam Hathaway was elected grand master of Masons in New Mexico.
New Mexico State (Zeta-Gamma)
Dr. Stuart R. Race (1961) died.
New York (Theta-Upsilon)
The chapter hosted a Founder’s Day with alumni spanning almost 40 years. The chapter conducted an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for seven associate members.
North Dakota (Epsilon-Zeta)
Rudolf E. Ziegler (1950) died.
Northwestern (Iota-Alpha)
John R. Kubik (1953) died.
Oklahoma (Gamma-Rho)
The chapter hosted a joint community service event at a regional food bank with the women of Tri Delta Sorority. We had about 20 members volunteer for three to four hours. The chapter was awarded the President’s Trophy runner-up Award. This is the most prestigious award for Greek life at OU. The chapter raised $2,500 for Big Brothers Big Sisters in Norman at an event that featured participants from six sororities. Alex Berney, president of Relay 4 Life at Oklahoma, helped orchestrate raising $220,000 for the American Cancer Society. Several other members also served on the Relay 4 Life Executive Committee.
Oklahoma City (Theta-Delta)
Wiley B. Walker (1958) died March 16, 2018. His Master’s from Oklahoma University and he is an ordained Methodist Minister. He served as Director of Music at three churches in Oklahoma City; Wesley Methodist, Village Methodist & 20 years at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church as Business Administrator & Choir Director.
Oregon State (Alpha-Lambda)
Chapter members participated in three philanthropies in April: Kappa Delta’s “ Mock Rock”, Alpha Phi’s “Alpha Phifa”, and Kappa Alpha Theta’s “Ironbrawl”. The chapter earned first place in both Alpha Phifa, which is a soccer tournament based philanthropy, and Ironbrawl, which is a flag football based philanthropy. The chapter contributed to raising more than $7,000 for Womens Heart Health. It took a lot of effort to win two of the biggest philanthropies of the year, and Alpha Lambda couldn’t have done it without our new spring rush class. The chapter had a successful spring recruitment hosting events like a casino night, barbecue, and bowling/billiards.
Rensselaer Polytechnic (Epsilon-Eta)
Louis H. DuBois (1955) died April 7, 2018. After graduation, he went on to take post graduate courses through Alexander Hamilton School of Business and Centenary College, Shreveport, Louisiana. DuBois served in the U S Navy for four years, receiving an honorable discharge in 1952. During his career, DuBois has developed and analyzed exploration and production projects throughout the offshore and onshore United States and Canada. He served as chairman of the Board of Lynx Exploration Co., Inc. in 1996-1997. He joined Enserch Exploration, Inc. in January 1975 as director of exploration. He was elected vice president of U. S. Exploration in August of 1975 and senior vice president of U. S. Exploration in 1981. He served on the Enserch Exploration Board of Directors and was listed in Who’s Who in the Southwest. Prior to joining Enserch, he was employed by Chevron Oil Co. from 1956 to 1964, and Mobil Corp. from 1964 through 1974.

South Carolina (Epsilon-Psi)
At the 2018 Greek Awards, the chapter won Chapter of the Year. Accepting the award were Scholarship Chairman Jackson Funke and Alumni Advisor Jim Tothill. On April 18, the chapter alumni association awarded the Nolan, Chapman, Sisk, and Leventis Scholastic Achievement awards to 17 members who have a 3.75 to 4.0 GPA and 21 members, who have a 3.5 to 3.75 GPA. The photo shows several brothers in the 4.0 GPA Club.
South Dakota (Alpha-Gamma)
Dr. Loren H. Amundson (1952) died March 27, 2018. Loren received his M.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1956. Following graduate training at Charles T. Miller Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, and general medical officer duty at Ft. Hood, Texas, he began his 37-year medical career, starting at the Peabody Clinic in Webster, South Dakota. In 1974 Amundson left full time practice to become the founding chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the newly legislated four-year degree granting University of South Dakota School of Medicine (USDSM), the beginning of his 22-year academic career of service to his specialty. He was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame in 1997. He received The Ralph Hawley Distinguished Service Award from the University of Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association in 1999. He delivered the commencement address at the University of South Dakota Winter Graduation in 2001 and also received an Alumni Achievement Award during the ceremony. A Lifetime Achievement Award from the South Dakota Academy of Family Physicians was awarded him in 2005.
Jerome I. Boettger (1967) died March 15, 2018. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and ended his service as a Sergeant in the Infantry Division. He then moved briefly to Longmont and settled in Loveland where he worked at First National Bank (later Bank One) as a teller, working his way up to chief financial officer until his retirement in 1996.
Harold H. Schuler (1950) died June 15, 2017.
South Dakota Mines (Pi-Mu)
On April 6, chapter brothers had a potluck dinner and the next morning they sorted food for Feeding South Dakota and and collected food at Walmart. The chapter hosted a game night where members held a Starwhal tournament. On April 14, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for its associate members. On April 15, the chapter received the Board of Regents Award for our 2017 volunteer service. On April 22, the chapter had a social with Alpha Omega Epsilon sorority where they played archery tag. On April 24, the chapter hosted an information session for potential new members.
South Dakota State (Lambda-Theta)
Chapter members participated in Greek Week activities, including the annual celebration at the Big G picnic.
Southern California (Zeta-Delta)
Allan B. Armstrong (1962) died April 6, 2018. Employed as an IBM senior consultant, working with Tier One large accounts as a programming manager, IT Director and senior developer, he was a much sought after speaker both nationally and internationally. His favorite consulting position was with Disney World. He was instrumental in bringing his project in on time and permitting the park to open as planned.
Stetson (Zeta-Tau)
J. David Eller died Nov. 18, 2017.
Tampa (Pi-Omega)
The chapter was awarded Outstanding Fraternity of the Year from university and the following day they received their charter from the Grand High Zeta.
Tennessee-Knoxville (Epsilon-Omicron)
Harold R. Henley (1957) died March 14, 2018. Harold served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Texas-Austin (Alpha-Mu)
James K. Alfred (1957) died.
Truman State (Phi-Psi)
In April, six chapter members participated in St. Baldrick’s. These men raised money for childhood cancer by promising to shave their heads to stand in solidarity with those affected. The men raised $2,300 The participates were from left to right: Dalton Goewey, Ben Brooke, John Kusmec, Connor Stewart, Shane Loewenstein, and Bailey Burkemper.
Tulsa (Epsilon-Upsilon)
The chapter conducted an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for five associate members: Christian Locastro, Matthew Meyer, Dean Pappedamos, Ben Rodriguez, and Dhruv Varshney.
Dean T. Allen (1970) died Oct. 10, 2017.
John. R. Gorman Jr. (1993) died Feb. 20, 2018.
George D. Riddle (1943) died March 6, 2013.
Valparaiso (Iota-Sigma)
The chapter completed more than 1,400 community service hours. Chapter members participated in Greek Week, placing first in the kickball and volleyball tournaments, as well as winning best banner for hand stitching Lambda Chi Alpha letters on our pillowcase. The chapter ended the week with a songfest performance choreographed by chapter brothers. The Scholarship Chairman started “Mom’s Fridge,” a new program where he highlights the academic accomplishment of chapter members and tapes them on the wall.
Wabash (Alpha-Kappa)
Hank Horner (2018) was awarded the Indiana College Career Center Consortium’s 2018 Paul W. Gabonay Volunteer Service Award. The award recognizes a student of a member school who best exemplifies the qualities of integrity, commitment to serving those in need, and dedication to fostering the growth and gifts of others.
Leonard W. Larson (1961) died Sept. 27, 2018.
Wake Forest (Theta-Tau)
The chapter conduced an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 12 associate members.
William Yarbrough Jr. (1954) died March 23, 2018. After college, he worked for Colgate Palmolive followed by Stuart/AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. He was a member of the Jaycees, Sportsman’s and Charlotte Pharmaceutical Clubs for years, and after retirement, he stayed active in his high school reunions, Eagle Lake Fishing Club and Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Western Michigan (Lambda-Tau)
On April 19, the chapter conducted an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for seven associate members. On April 27, five chapter brothers graduated: Max Pennock, Austin Whitford, Jeffery Nowicki, Trevor Woo, and Jack Friesl.
Western (Delta-Eta)
Chapter brothers played bubble soccer and frisbee to help offset the pressure and stress of finals.
William Jewell (Epsilon-Nu)
The chapter hosted a barbecue for parents to celebrate the conclusion of the semester
Anthony Shop, co-founder and chief strategy officer, Social Driver, has been selected for the prestigious Zhi-Xing China Eisenhower Fellowship Program. He is a 2005 graduate of William Jewell College. Shop is an internationally recognized digital strategist and entrepreneur. As an Eisenhower Fellow he will pursue an individual project focused on digital media and engage in transformative exchanges of knowledge and ideas with leading thinkers in their respective fields. Shop is one of nine American leaders chosen for the honor. Through meetings with leading experts and leaders across multiple cities in China, Shop will compare how this quickly-evolving society is managing the same exciting opportunities and new challenges presented by digital transformation at home.
Wisconsin-Whitewater (Lambda-Iota)
On April 25, the chapter held their teeter totter fundraiser at the University Center. On May 2, Nick Herzberg organized a senior sendoff.
Kenneth A. Laun (1962) died Jan. 1, 2017.
Wittenberg (Nu-Zeta)
On April 4, the Office of Student Involvement awarded the chapter with the Dietrich Academic Excellence Award. Last semester, the chapter received the highest overall GPA of all fraternities on campus. Michael Kovack received the Tiger Award. On April 7, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for associate member Joshua Butler. The chapter hosted its annual spring semester philanthropy event, Lambda Chi-Li Dogs, which featured delicious chili dogs and mac & cheese. Two brothers performed for their Senior Music Recitals, Ben Knochel performed on his bassoon and Michael Kovack on his trombone. One brother, Brother Kieran Hunter, performed for his Junior Music Recital on the tuba.
