Chapter News & Omegas: September 2017
The following are the submissions received for September 2017.

Alberta (Epsilon-Rho)
Chapter members volunteered at an Edmonton Food Bank fundraiser selling raffle tickets that raised more than $18,000. The chapter hosted Hunger Spike volleyball tournament that raised $300 and canned donations for the University Food Bank. Chapter members volunteered at the Bissell Centre to help feed more than 300 homeless people in Edmonton. The chapter placed fourth at a charity Race for Jimmy V.
Bradley (Kappa-Upsilon)
On Sept. 9, the chapter celebrated its 10-year rechartering, hosting an event for approximately 40 alumni brothers. During the event, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Chapter Advisor Robert Lucia for his outstanding involvement with the chapter.
Buffalo (Buffalo Colony)
In August, chapter president Sean Dineen and Andrew Mavrogeorgis attended Stead East along with alumni advisor and Stead facilitator Dick Hubbard (Vincennes). The chapter hosted a Feeding America/Food Bank of WNY fundraiser by selling ice cream in a large lecture hall lobby and an alumni football tailgating event. During fall recruitment, the colony added nine associate members, bringing total membership to 41 men and becoming one step closer to chartering.
Coastal Carolina (Colony)
During fall recruitment, the colony added six associate members.
Drexel (Epsilon-Kappa)
Joseph Tribendis died Sept. 10. In addition to a bachelor of science degree in materials engineering from Drexel University, he earned a master of science and doctorate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s School of Engineering and Sloan School of Management. Tribendis held management positions at Alcoa Inc. prior to joining the investment banking firm, Ventura Group, LLC. He was a board member and past President of the Swampscott Education Foundation.
Eastern Kentucky (Phi-Beta)
The chapter hosted a Watermelon Bust benefiting Feeding America.
Edinboro (Beta-Delta)
During fall recruitment, the chapter added seven associate members: Caleb Turner, Connor Wentworth, Clayton Danielson, Chris Both, Michael Crispen, Noah Morus and Evan Tanner.
Embry-Riddle (Sigma-Phi)
Colton Butterfield died Sept. 29. He was an undergraduate brother who had enlisted in the U.S. Army.
Idaho (Epsilon-Gamma)
The chapter organized its largest composite since rechartering with 46 members included.
Indiana (Alpha-Omicron)
E. Paul Smith died Sept. 1. A World War II veteran, he worked for Prudential Insurance and upon retirement began his second career of volunteering in his community.
Indiana State (Iota-Epsilon)
Conrad H. Galloway died Sept. 27. He began his career in education, teaching and coaching at Newport. Dr. Galloway was Superintendent of Schools in Seymour from 1973 to 1983, and also was Superintendent of Schools at five other school corporations, retiring as Superintendent of Washington Township Schools in Indianapolis. He was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash (Indiana) and the Kentucky Colonel awards for his life-long commitment to the education of children.
Gary B. Kersey died Sept. 17. He was a track, cross county, and basketball coach for Frankfort Junior High and Frankfort High School during his tenure of 32 years. He owned and operated K & P Painting business for over 44 years.
Phillip L. Terry died Sept. 24. He was a supervisor of marketing, was an accomplished swimmer, and an avid Auburn football fan “War Eagle.”
Kansas State (Gamma-Xi)
On Sept. 14, the chapter held a Watermelon Bust and collected more than 3,000 cans of food for the Flint Hills Breadbasket. Proceeds from T-shirt sales benefited Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Houston. The chapter also hosted an alumni tailgate.
Kent State (Phi-Gamma)
During fall recruitment, the chapter added four associate members.
Miami-OH (Zeta-Upsilon)
Harry R. Melcher died Sept. 10. He worked on behalf of people with developmental disabilities for the state of Ohio and the Trumbull County Board of Developmentally Disabilities, retiring in 1999.
Middle Tennessee State (Colony)
During fall recruitment, the colony added six associate members. Colony members held a brotherhood camping retreat.
Northeastern State (Delta-Beta)
On Sept. 11, chapter brothers participated in campus/city-wide day of service to honor those who died during the terrorist attacks in 2001.
Northern Michigan (Lambda-Upsilon Colony)
Dennis M. McCarthy died Sept. 2. After working in the Washington D.C., Baltimore area in corrections he earned his master’s degree from George Mason University. He then continued his career in Michigan as a rehab counselor in criminal justice.
Oklahoma City (Theta-Delta)
Chapter members participated in Gamma Phis Moonball philanthropy event.
South Dakota Mines (Phi-Mu)
Chapter members held a second annual brotherhood retreat at Outlaw Ranch. The retreat included a basketball competition, an education session, brotherhood Olympics, and outdoor survival lessons. Following the retreat was a Hike the Hills recruitment event where brothers and potential members hiked Horse Thief Trail close to Mount Rushmore. On Sept. 11, the chapter conducted an Associate Member Ceremony for seven new members. On Sept. 20, the chapter held its Big Brother Ceremony. The next day was the Brothers Feeding Others recruitment event where brothers and AMs grilled out on campus. Because SDSDM&T’s fall career fair was on September 26th , brothers gathered to review each other’s resume on Saturday the 23rd. The Career Fair also brought in 4 alumni brothers to our Sept. 24th meeting. The chapter held a picnic social with the women of Alpha Delta Pi.
Southern Indiana (Phi-Xi)
During fall recruitment, the chapter added 14 associate members. The chapter held a brotherhood event at Sky Zone. Chapter members are participating in Its On Us, an event and pledge to help end sexual assaults.
Texas Christian (Iota-Pi)
On Sept. 30, chapter members volunteered with Trinity Habitat for Humanity, working eight hours to help build a home in the Fort Worth community. This is the chapter’s second time working with Habitat.
Tulsa (Epsilon-Upsilon)
During fall recruitment, the chapter added 23 new members.
Virginia Tech (Sigma-Lambda)
Benjamin M. Wenger died Sept. 16.
William Jewell (Epsilon-Nu)
Ethan Hawn, Bailey Cordonnier, and Conner Foote helped organize and participate in the William Jewell Bowman Parliamentary Debate tournament. Organized by chapter Vice President Mason Bake, the chapter held a philanthropy event and food drive benefiting Harvesters.
